Steven Penney is a Professor at the Faculty of Law, University of Alberta. He received a Bachelor of Arts and a Bachelor of Laws from the University of Alberta and a Master of Laws from Harvard Law School. He researches and teaches in the areas of criminal procedure, evidence, substantive criminal law, privacy, and law and technology. He is co-author of Criminal Procedure in Canada (Markham, Ont.: Lexis Nexis, 2011) and co-editor of Evidence: A Canadian Casebook, 3d ed. (Toronto: Emond Montgomery, 2012). He has written several book chapters and his articles have appeared in numerous publications, including the American Journal of Criminal Law, Journal of Criminal Law and Criminology, International Journal of Law & Psychiatry, McGill Law Journal, Osgoode Hall Law Journal, Queen’s Law Journal, Supreme Court Law Review, Alberta Law Review, Canadian Criminal Law Review, and Criminal Law Quarterly. Before his appointment at the University of Alberta, he taught at the Faculty of Law, University of New Brunswick. He has been a Visiting Professor at the Faculty of Law, University of Western Ontario and clerked for Mr. Justice Gérard V. La Forest of the Supreme Court of Canada.
