Title
Clashology within Islam: Not Civilisational but Political
Presenter
Houchang Hassan Yari
Abstract
In this presentation Hassan Yari will examine the idea of the Shia Crescent in the context of clashology within Islam as an agent of civilizational clash. Central to this inquiry is how the promoters of division (all pro-American rulers) in the Middle East serve and discredit the idea of clash? It will be argued that clash is served by stigmatizing a vague and fluid threat emanating from a loosely defined heterogeneous Shia coalition. Nevertheless, the idea of this division contradicts the ideology of clash by promoting tension inside the realm of Islam.
