Stan Ruecker

Stan Ruecker is an Associate Professor of Design at the Institute of Design in the Illinois Institute of Technology in Chicago. Stan holds advanced degrees in English, Humanities Computing, and Design, and has expertise in the design of experimental interfaces to support online browsing tasks. He was the principal investigator of the Humanities Visualization project, and is leading the interface design team of Implementing New Knowledge Environments. His current research interests are in the areas of computer-human interfaces, humanities visualization, and information design. With Milena Radzikowska and Stéfan Sinclair, he had a book released in 2011 by Ashgate Press, entitled Visual Interface Design for Digital Cultural Heritage: A Guide to Rich-Prospect Browsing.

Stéfan Sinclair

Stéfan Sinclair is an Associate Professor in Digital Humanities at McGill University. His research focuses primarily on the design, development and theorization of tools for the digital humanities, especially for text analysis and visualization. He has led or contributed significantly to projects such as Voyeur Tools, Simulated Environment for Theatre, and BonPatron. Other professional activities include serving as associate editor for Literary and Linguistic Computing and Digital Humanities Quarterly, as well as serving on the executive boards of SDH/SEMI, ACH, ADHO, and centerNET.

Dr. Geoffrey Rockwell

Dr. Geoffrey Martin Rockwell is a Professor of Philosophy and Humanities Computing at the University of Alberta, Canada. He received a B.A. in Philosophy from Haverford College, an M.A. and Ph.D. in Philosophy from the University of Toronto and worked at the University of Toronto as a Senior Instructional Technology Specialist. From 1994 to 2008 he was at McMaster University where he was the Director of the Humanities Media and Computing Centre (1994 – 2004) and he led the development of an undergraduate Multimedia program funded through the Ontario Access To Opportunities Program. He has published and presented papers in the area of philosophical dialogue, textual visualization and analysis, humanities computing, instructional technology, computer games and multimedia including a book, Defining Dialogue: From Socrates to the Internet with Humanity Books. He was the project leader for the CFI (Canada Foundation for Innovation) funded project TAPoR, a Text Analysis Portal for Research, which has developed a text tool portal for researchers who work with electronic texts and he organized a SSHRC funded conference, The Face of Text in 2004. He is currently the Director of the Canadian Institute for Research in Computing and the Arts at the University of Alberta.

Milena Radzikowska

Milena Radzikowska is a visual communication and interface designer, as well as an associate professor in Information Design, Faculty of Communication Studies, Mount Royal University. In 2000, she graduated from NSCAD University (BDes Hon.) and, in 2003, from the University of Alberta, with a terminal masters (MDes) degree in visual communication design. Her active research interests are in the areas of decision support systems, visual communication, interface and information design, and text visualization.

Daniel Sondheim (YEAR 1 TO YEAR 3)

Daniel Sondheim is a graduate student in Humanities Computing and Library and Information Studies at the University of Alberta in Edmonton.  His current research focuses on how textual conventions from the print world are being implemented on the Web.

Mihaela Ilovan

Mihaela Ilovan is a graduate in Classic Archaeology, currently studying Humanities Computing and Library and Information Studies at the University of Alberta in Edmonton. Her research interest is focused on citation analysis, digital libraries and humanities visualization.

Luciano Frizzera

Currently studying Humanities Computing, MA program at University of Alberta, Canada. Graduated in Social Communication at Universidade Federal do Espirito Santo. Experienced Flash Developer and Web Designer. Former CEO and Creative Director at Fluxo Art. Main research interests: GUI for tangible devices; Information Visualization; Social Network / Social Media.

JENNIFER WINDSOR

Graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Alberta in 1992 and is a visual communication designer. At present she is also a graduate student in Humanities Computing at the University of Alberta. Her current research focuses on scholarly ereaders, interface design and interactive data visualization.

SARAH VELA

A graduate student studying Humanities Computing and Library and Information Studies at the University of Alberta in Edmonton. She is an experienced programmer in PHP and JavaScript. Her current research examines digital interfaces for Classical material history, and user-centric website design.

TIANYI LI

A graduate student from Humanities Computing at the University of Alberta, with a background in library science. Her current research and interests include reading across media, usability testing, and digital interfaces within new media.

ATEFEH MOHSENI (YEAR 4)

A graduate student in humanities Computing at University of Alberta. Her background is in English Literature and her current research interests are e-books and tablets technologies and their application in education.

Laurentia romaniuk

A graduate student from San Jose State University’s School of Library and Information Science living in Edmonton, AB. Her current research interests related to improving information retrieval for databases, digital libraries, and websites through well structured taxonomies, controlled vocabularies, metadata, and thoughtful interface design.

JOHN MONTAGUE

A visual communication designer and former instructor in the Design Studies program at MacEwan University in Edmonton. Graduating in 1993 with a BBA in Marketing from Saint Francis Xavier University, John is now a graduate student in Humanities Computing at the University of Alberta.
