There are lots of ways to get involved with CSDH/SCHN!

We welcome involvement from all members of CSDH/SCHN, whether or not they reside in Canada.

Please feel free to seek out any member of the executive council if you would like to learn more.

Light-weight ways of becoming involved include contributing in occasional discussions over internal and external policy matters, or participating in ad hoc committees or white paper drafting related to such discussions. Invitations to be involved circulate on the CSDH/SCHN member listserv. To subscribe to our listserv, visit here: http://lists.lists.csdh-schn.org/mailman/listinfo/csdh-schn-members.

The Awards committee and Congress conference Program Committee have regular turn-over and are glad to hear of members interested in contributing. We also have representation on ADHO committees related to the annual international DH conference, ADHO awards, and other matters. If you are interested in any of these opportunities, please let the Secretary or another member of the Executive know.

Elected council positions are described in the constitution. Our call for nominations usually comes out in February or March.

Two volunteer positions sit ex-officio on the Executive Committee: the Communications Officer, which changes annually, and the Web Administrator.

CSDH/SCHN Communications Officer

The Canadian Society for Digital Humanities/Société canadienne des humanités numériques (CSDH/SCHN) Communications Officer position is usually filled by a graduate student enrolled at a Canadian university . The job entails insuring a social media presence for the society via various networks such as Facebook and Twitter, as well as occasional blog entries (at least once a month) on the site and overseeing the automatic aggregation of other Canadian DH blogs. The Communications Officer also serves on the Communications Committee.

This is a volunteer position. A bursary of $500/year is available to top off the professionalization skills the student would acquire. Bilingualism is an asset, though not a requirement. Applications accompanied by a CV and covering letter are solicited in the spring of each year by the Secretary.

CSDH/SCHN Web Administrator

The Canadian Society for Digital Humanities/Société canadienne des humanités numériques (CSDH/SCHN) webmaster has primary responsibility for maintaining and developing the society’s website in close consultation with the society’s Communications Committee. Tasks include making updates to and backups of the website; managing authorizations and potential security risks; making recommendations for improvements in the site’s design and functionality; troubleshooting and implementing fixes as needed.

The Web Administrator requires a reasonable degree of comfort with managing WordPress websites and plugins, and a willingness to educate themselves further in relation to WordPress, listserv management, and the ConfTool conference management system. Initial orientation will be provided and backup assistance with more advanced technical problems is available should it be required. Bilingualism is an asset, though not a requirement.

This is a volunteer position. An honorarium of $500/year is available to top off the professionalization skills acquired through this role. Requests for a CV and a letter of interest are solicited by the Secretary whenthe position becomes vacant.
