Mez Breeze
artist

Biography
“Mez does for code poetry as jodi and Vuk Cosic have done for ASCII Art: Turning a great, but naively executed concept into something brilliant, paving the ground for a whole generation of digital artists.” (Florian Cramer). The impact of her unique code works – constructed via her pioneering net- language “mezangelle” – has been likened to that of Shakespeare, James Joyce, Emily Dickinson, and Larry Wall.

Abstract
This video “netwurker_mez + her cardboard avatar [who might be made up of Boxes, but is *not* Boxxy]”, which employs virtual avatars, describes the art of mezangelle in electronic media, identity fluctuations, and the use of progressive collaborative game “interventions” that operate at a subversive level. It references relevant conference themes including:

– manifestos for the next generation: by highlighting the discrepancies between current pedagogical standards and new educational forms that act to utilise more relevant platforms like MMOs and mixed reality platforms.

– new stories for new screens through e-literatures, immersive/augmented worlds, future cinema, games: the performance discusses synthetic and mixed realities, including a demarcation of the geophysical and the virtual and how these categorisations can be leveraged to create new art forms.

– ways of working – methodologies, code, communities and new and imagined creative practices: the video contains references to the importance of MMO use in artistic interventions.
