Biography
Nicole Van Slyke is currently attending Rhode Island School of Design. She will receive her Masters of Arts in May from the Teaching and Learning through Art and Design (TLAD) Program where she is studying the effects that art and technology have on education, community development and socioeconomics.
Abstract
This documentary explores questions of community arts/tech practices through the lenses of founders and practitioners. The documentary looks for answers to questions such as: What are the important challenges in working with communities? What are successful strategies? How do you engage with community without overpowering it? How is technology changing the face of education and how we educate? How is sustainability achieved within these practices? What effect are these practices having on the quality of life and job opportunities in the community?
Through a series of interviews and observations, this documentary explores these questions and suggests the complexities that come with the creation, funding, and the implementation of these ideas.
