Early Childhood Education Archaeology Presentations February 29, 2012 On February 29, 2012, Tara Young gave archaeology presentations to three classes of 2 to 5 year olds at the Garneau University Childcare Centre on the University of Alberta Campus. The children learned about artifacts and excavation. Through photographs, they were shown some of the work our project has completed in Russia and Japan. Thanks to the flintknapping efforts of our graduate student Sean Lynch, the children also got to see replicas of a biface, arrowheads, and a scraper. Some of the questions asked were "How do you dig a tooth?" and "How do you know where to dig?" The children then got to take part in a mock excavation using brushes in sandboxes. They then drew pictures in their field notebooks of what they had found. Fun and excitement was had by all. We would like to thank the Garneau University Childecare Centre for inviting Tara to give her talks and we look forward to helping more children learn about archaeology in the future!
