Drs. Angela Lieverse and Rick Schulting's exciting data collecting trip to Japan!

Thanks to Dr. Lieverse for her brief report from about their summer lab work in Japan!:

We were both collecting data on pre-Ainu remains, specifically Jomon and Okhotsk period. Rick was documenting evidence for inter-personal violence, especially on the cranium. Fun fact: not a lot of violence (but check out Rick's photo below!).

Rick found a really cool obsidian projectile point wound in a tibia (showing some healing) from the site of Moyoro. Photo by Rick Schulting.

I was collecting data on pathology, especially upper respiratory infections, middle ear infections, and periodontitis. Fun fact: TONNES of maxillary sinusitis. Here is a photo, taken with my endoscope, of a maxillary sinusitis lesion.
